Social why?

I’m sure there’s a few of you out there who share my ennui with Facebook. Not hate or distrust; just boredom. I used to friend everyone I knew with zeal, even if I’d just met them once. Much as the Russian described me after forcing me into a stalemate by letting me take all his pieces, I was “hungry; eating them all up” (picture here a Russian pretending to plop pawns in his mouth).

After a while, I scaled back. I usually asked people if they were on facebook before hunting them down. I mostly kept to myself, and didn’t comment voraciously on links. These days, I don’t think I even actively add people, which makes for some sort of reverse situation; I’m closer to some people in real life than many of my facebook acquaintances, yet I haven’t added them. Those people are probably reading this right now, and shouldn’t be offended. Hell, you’re all too cool to be offended. Keep up the good work.

I’m not angry with facebook, nor am I “over it”. I think it’s become background noise. We’ve definitely hit a new level of distractedness these days, something I realize every time I navigate down to facebook and realize I have no business there.

This might all sound morose in some way, but it’s not; I’m probably outside throwing rocks at stop signs right now.

You can come along. Bring your own rocks.
